Ray has been involved in diving for over forty years. First as a diver, and now as a coach.

Ray's diving experience started with Miami Hills Swim Club (Milford, OH), where he finished as League Champion every year of his 13 years of competition.

Ray started his coaching career at Miami Hills' in his last year of summer club eligibility and the following year as well. While attending Marshall University, Ray was asked to assist in coaching the divers of the school team. This also gave him the opportunity to start teaching private lessons.

Over the years, Ray has coached many high schools in the Cincinnati area. Most notably Indian Hill High School, where three of his female divers nearly swept the state meet two years in a row. One of those divers, (Emily Hunter), became the first diver ever, male or female, to win four consecutive Ohio High School State Championships.
