Catherine Maxwell joined the DIVE Cincinnati Program
in March, 2000. Initially, she dove two times per week and
then built up to two hours one time per week. Her goal was
to go the U.S. Masters Diving Championships in Coral Springs,
Florida.
Catherine had not dived competitively for over 30
years but on August 25th, at 46 years of age, she placed second
on the one-meter. She competed nine dives. Five required dives
and she did the following 4 optional dives:
-
Forward double somersault tuck 2.2
-
Back one and a half somersault tuck 2.0
-
Forward somersault with one twist free 1.9
-
Inward one and a half somersault tuck 2.2
A year ago, she weighed 35 pounds more than
she does now, her cholesterol was 270 and she was on blood pressure
medicine. By Christmas, 1999, her cholesterol was down to 200
and her blood pressure was 110/70 vs. 171/111.
In addition to diving, she works out on Nautilus,
a treadmill, and always does stretching exercises before any
activity. Catherine chose springboard diving for her health
and physical fitness, but she mostly dives for fun.
It was the first time since Catherine was a
teenager that she did the back and inward one and a half somersaults.
Catherine says that when she rips a dive now, she gets goose
bumps.
Her goals for the next few years are to become
a "Grand Master" National Diving Champion and dive
in the 2002 Masters World Championships, which will be in New
Zealand. Catherine plans to increase the degree of difficulty
of her dives and may even start diving from the three-meter
board.
Catherine says she is having a lot of fun diving
with everyone at DIVE Cincinnati. She would like to thank the
many people that provided help, guidance, instruction and support.
She especially thanks her coaches Steve and Jenny, but most
importantly her husband, Tim. |
