Ruthy Effler in New York |
| |
Over the summer Ruthy Effler was back in Cincinnati for
a friend's wedding and got together with Steve for lunch.
Ruthy is working in New York City selling advertising.
She loves it there but misses Cincinnati and all her friends
she made while diving. If you want to contact Ruthy, send
her an email at ruthyeffler@yahoo.com.
Ruthy said things in NYC are great...work is going really
well! She recently helped to organize a screen writing
group with a couple of other people and says that she
has met some really interesting people through that -
authors, actors, playwrights - all who are interested
in film/writing. They are all all sort of beginners, so
they have arranged for some some speakers and Ruthy has
organized movie screenings every other week -- "just
something that helps her brain stay active after a day
of talking to crazy people on the phone!"

Karl warden update |
| |
Former DIVE Cincinnati Diver Karl Warden (Indian Hill
H.S. -- 1999) sent us a note with these memories and updates
from his long time in the DIVE Cincinnati Program:
Karl says he loves to get the alumni / alumnae e-mail
updates to see what everybody is doing these days! He
loved reading about former divers Lauralee Frazer and
Jen Huber and recalls how his "era" was much
the same as their era was -- that is the divers with whom
Karl dove were from all over the Tri-State area but they
all became good friends both in and out of the pool with
many of the divers going to each other's proms, homecomings,
etc.
Karl fondly remembers inventing the numerous trampoline
games that they would play before and after practice and
how all the divers would push each other at practice to
get better, Karl still stays in touch with former DIVE
Cincinnati Divers Ruthy Effler, Crystal McWhorter, Mike
Kaufman, Joe Vukin, and Jen Hurst.
Karl is involved with Theater and since his last alumni
update, he has been performing on a cruise ship; he filmed
a song and dance scene for THE PRODUCERS MOVIE with Uma
Thurman and Gary Beach. He is in the Broadway Show "Prisoners
of Love " Scene. (See attached picture) Karl says
he appears towards the end of the movie when Nathan Lane
and Matthew Broderick's characters become actual successful
producers. Karl also originated the role of Ephraim in
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at Goodspeed Musicals
in East Haddam, CT in 2005 and a major national tour is
being planned for the Fall of 2006.
To contact Karl, send e-mail to Dancinkarl@aol.com

Kayla hanser update |
| |
Former DIVE Cincinnati Diver Kayla Hanser (Notre Dame
Academy -- 2000) graduated in May, 2005 from Transylvania
University with a degree in Elementary Education. She
is now working on her Master's Degree in Special Education
through the online program at Georgetown College.
After graduating, Kayla moved home with her mom and dad
and is working in downtown Cincinnati as a receptionist
at an architecture firm to earn money while completing
graduate school. Kayla also coaches Notre Dame Academy
High School Diving Team.
Last summer, Kayla traveled to Seattle to learn about
integrated dance. She has always wanted to start a dance/gymnastics
program for people with and without disabilities. Kayla
was a long-time gymnast and wanted to learn more about
dance in order to fulfill this longtime dream.
She attended a dance intensive for 10 days and learned
how to choreograph dances with physically and mentally
handicapped people. She said it was a wonderful experience
and that she is looking forward to starting her own program
in the Tri-state area within the next few years.
